BPD and Diverse Populations

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) affects a wide range of communities and populations differently. This page will highlight resources for diverse communities, as well as topics in BPD research to increase education, awareness and support recovery.

Diversity Well-Being Resources List*

Emotions Matter launched a Diversity and Inclusion Committee in 2023 to focus on developing resources which address the intersectionality of mental health and racial and ethnic diversity, which may be helpful to people impacted by BPD on the recovery journey.  The resources below were peer reviewed by people with lived-experience to assist with finding culturally competent general mental health care and support.


Black & African American Populations

AAKOMA Project - This organization raises consciousness and awareness for Black youth mental health issues, provides tools for ongoing wellness management, and works at the policy-level to change and create better care systems for youth. https://aakomaproject.org/

South Asian Mental Health Initiative & Network (SAMHIN) - This site provides support groups and a directory for finding a South Asian therapist. https://samhin.org/

South Asian Therapists - This is a source for finding South Asian Therapists that also offers self-help workbooks and information about therapy. https://southasiantherapists.org/

The Trevor Project - The Trevor Project offers 24/7 crisis services via text, chat and phone call. They are focused on suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQI+ youth. https://www.thetrevorproject.org/
